I just got notice that my contract is done in 30 days. Been here 2 years, 3 months. Cutbacks all over Alberta right now: the falling price of oil is screwing us all over. My oilfield services company just announced that they're cutting flex days and instituting a 10% pay cut across the board. Glad I'm getting out now honestly. Gonna try and find a new contract not in the O & G sector, if possible.

Best of luck. I was recently pursuing rig job; but as you well know they are shutting down rigs left and right. 17 rigs shut down in West Texas alone.

Sorry to hear that. OPEC 's plan is working I guess. Alternative energy is they way to go if you're staying in the energy business. Can't wait until the Saudi's run out of oil and go back to herding camels. I also can't wait for the majority of vehicles to use alternatives to fossil fuels. Just leave enough gas/diesel for us enthusiasts

Both my company and my wife's have gone through layoffs already. We both made it through the first cut, but who knows what's to come? The industry needs a higher commodity price, and quick, but it looks like it's going to take a while...

There is a sea change out there, that's for sure. There are more people employed by the solar industry in the USA (installers, salesmen, etc) than in coal mining operations. That's a huge shift if you think about it.
What do you know about embedded systems? Embedded systems (SCADA) system security is a huge niche.
